Love4Comics was born from a deep, burning love for comic books that began at a little neighborhood gem—Eddie’s Newsstand—on 187th Street in the heart of the Bronx’s Little Italy. The very first comic I picked up was an issue of G.I. Joe, more because I was a fan of the animated series and already collecting the action figures. That neighborhood was the kind of place where running errands as a kid felt like an adventure.
We had corner stores that were full of character. There was Nat’s Toy Store, stacked with toys from floor to ceiling—it was every kid’s dream. Then there was the Variety Store, where you could buy a half-pound of freshly ground espresso. I’d carry that little brown packet home, holding it up to my nose the whole way, just to savor the smell. And of course, there was Eddie’s Newsstand.
Eddie’s wasn’t your typical sidewalk stand—it was a full-on storefront. Inside, you could grab a hot coffee, a cold Manhattan Special from the fridge, the latest newspapers, magazines, and most importantly—comic books. They even had a backroom arcade that devoured my quarters, especially on Space Ace, a game that felt years ahead of its time. But those comics… that’s where the fire started.
It began with G.I. Joe, but before long, I discovered Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. That series pulled me deep into the X-Men universe. One day, while riding the bus to Orchard Beach, I spotted a comic shop called WOW Comics in Pelham Parkway. That store was a revelation—it was the first place where I could track down back issues and finally complete my Kitty Pryde mini-series. I remember the thrill of putting a checkmark next to it in my collection list.
Then there was Punisher War Journal #6. I’ll never forget flipping through it and thinking, Why is Wolverine on the cover of a Punisher book? That moment was electric—unexpected, exciting, and unforgettable. It’s little moments like that which remind me why I still love comics today.
